The quarterfinal day at the 2026 Barcelona Open brought new exciting matches and confirmed that the young hopes are ready for the biggest achievements. While some big names confidently marched on, Hamad Medjedovic and Rafael Jodar continue their incredible run on the Spanish clay.

Medjedovic Past Borges to the Semifinals
Hamad Medjedovic, a player we specifically track in our “Players we follow” section within the ATP and WTA rankings, achieved another great victory. He defeated Nuno Borges with a score of 7-6, 6-2 after an hour and 36 minutes of play. Medjedovic was extremely solid on his serve, winning 79% of points when his first delivery landed in (31/39). With 7 aces and 28 winners, Hamad controlled the pace of the game. Although Borges put up strong resistance in the first set, Medjedovic completely dominated the second, converting a total of 3 out of 6 break opportunities in the match. The Serbian tennis player saved 1 of the 2 break points he faced, showing mental stability in crucial moments.
Young Jodar Eliminates Norrie
The young Spanish tennis player Rafael Jodar continues his fairytale in Barcelona. In the quarterfinals, he defeated the seventh seed, Cameron Norrie, 6-3, 6-2 in just over an hour of play (1:09). Jodar was outstanding on the return, winning an impressive 55% of points on his opponent’s serve. The Spaniard capitalized on 5 of 9 break points and recorded 25 winners, compared to Norrie’s 8. Norrie struggled with his second serve execution, winning only 52% of those points (12/23), which Jodar expertly punished.
Fils Convincing Against Musetti
In the quarterfinal derby, Arthur Fils (another player we closely follow) surprisingly easily defeated the second seed, Lorenzo Musetti, 6-3, 6-4. Fils spent an hour and 16 minutes on the court, during which he demonstrated top-tier tennis. The Frenchman was incredibly secure on his serve – he didn’t allow Musetti a single break point throughout the entire match (0/0)! Fils won 79% of points on his second serve, while Musetti won only 38% of points on his second delivery (6/16). With 100% of service games won (10/10), Fils fully deserved his spot in the semifinals.
Rublev Routine Against Machac
Tomas Machac, who reached the quarterfinals following Carlos Alcaraz’s withdrawal, could not put up a stronger resistance against Andrey Rublev. The fifth seed celebrated a 6-4, 6-3 victory in an hour and 26 minutes. The match saw a high number of errors on both sides, but Rublev was significantly more aggressive with 31 winners compared to Machac’s 27. The Russian utilized 6 of 13 break opportunities and won 53% of return points. Machac struggled with his first serve, landing only 65% and winning 51% of points when he did (22/43)
