After two days of top-tier tennis and completed first-round matches, the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Athens Open enters a new phase. Wednesday, July 15, brings us the start of the Round of 16 (R16) in singles, as well as a handful of exciting doubles duels. A total of 9 matches await us across three courts.
Focus on Center Court: Sakkari in Prime Time
As we are already accustomed to, the most attractive matches are reserved for the center stadium, where the program begins in the afternoon hours:
- Zheng back in action: The program opens at 17:30 with Chinese tennis player Qinwen Zheng and Australian qualifier Elena Micic. Zheng will try to continue her good performances and secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
- Night spectacle with the home star: In the prime evening slot (not before 19:30), the fourth seed and Athens crowd favorite, Maria Sakkari, will cross rackets with Brit Harriet Dart. A packed stadium and a great atmosphere are expected.
- Finale on center court: Following them, the fifth seed, young Czech Sara Bejlek, and another qualifier, Austrian Lilli Tagger, take the court.
