The finalists for this year’s edition of the WTA Athens Open are officially set. Maria Sakkari and Barbora Krejcikova will fight for the title after overcoming their opponents in highly engaging semi-final duels on Center Court.
Sakkari Dominant With Stand Support
The first semi-final match was opened by the Greek crowd favorite Sakkari and the Russian Korneeva. Carried by the frenetic crowd, Sakkari hit everything she imagined, and Korneeva was unrecognizable. Because of this balance of power, the first set ended with a score of 6:1. In the second set, Korneeva was an equal opponent to Sakkari, but she still couldn’t manage to win the set. That part of the match went to the Greek tennis player with a score of 7:5, ending the match after one hour and 23 minutes of play.

She even took the first break in the second set, but then Tauson woke up and won 6:4 after a series of breaks from both sides. In the third set, similar to the first, Krejcikova got the first two breaks and took a 4:1 lead. Tauson only managed to get one break back, which was not enough to catch Krejcikova, making Krejcikova the second finalist. The deciding set ended with a score of 6:3.
