Rome (Foro Italico) โ A spectacular edition of the Rome Masters has crowned its champion! Top seed and home favorite Jannik Sinner claimed the title with a straight-sets victory over Norway’s Casper Ruud (6-4, 6-4). Although Ruud started phenomenally and caused some worry among the home fans, Sinner demonstrated the mental stability of a world number one, routinely closing out the match after an hour and 45 minutes of play.
Ruud started furiously, Sinner broke back late in the sets
The match began like a dream for the Norwegian. Casper Ruud broke in the very first game without losing a point, and then confidently held his serve to establish an early 2-0 lead.
However, that was all from the Norwegian’s initial charge. Sinner quickly struck back, broke back, and equalized at 2-2. The key moment of the first set occurred in the ninth game with the score tied at 4-4, when the Italian made the decisive break, subsequently holding his serve to claim the set 6-4.
The second set brought a similar scenario, but this time with Sinner applying early pressure. Jannik broke his opponent’s serve right at the start to establish a 2-0 lead. Ruud put up a strong fight, saving two break points in a long third game to stay in contention, but Sinner didn’t allow him a single comeback opportunity for the rest of the match, closing out the second set with an identical 6-4 scoreline.
Statistics clearly highlight Sinner’s dominance in key areas. The Italian hit 26 winners to just 15 unforced errors, while Ruud recorded 22 winners and 23 unforced errors. Sinner was particularly impressive on his first serve, winning an incredible 83% of points (29/35), compared to Ruud’s 65% on his first serve.
