Day of Epic Marathons at Roland Garros: Tiafoe Survives Hell, Berrettini Celebrates After a Heart-Stopping Tie-Break, Auger-Aliassime Wraps it Up!

If you thought there was drama in the previous days at Roland Garros, today’s Round of 32 matches raised the bar to a whole new level! Almost every match on today’s schedule turned into a five-set gladiatorial battle. We saw unreal comebacks, nerve-wracking tie-breaks, and the end of the fairytale for the tournament’s biggest sensation.

American Miracle: Tiafoe Returns from the Abyss!

The match of the day, at least when it comes to comebacks, was played by the American Frances Tiafoe and the Portuguese Jaime Faria. Faria played the tennis of his life in the first two sets, winning them 6-4, 7-6, and it seemed there was no salvation for the American.

However, Tiafoe proved once again why the crowd loves him. He refused to surrender, shifted into “fifth gear”, and pulled off one of the hardest comebacks in tennis – from 0-2 to 3-2! In the end, he broke the Portuguese’s resistance with 6-4, 6-1, and 6-2 in the deciding sets, leaving the crowd in delirium.

End of the Fairytale: Tabilo Extinguishes the Dream of 15-Year-Old Kouame

All of France looked towards the court today where Moise Kouame, the 15-year-old prodigy, was playing. And it started perfectly – the young Frenchman won the first set (6-4) carried by incredible energy from the stands.

However, the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo showed why he is at the top of world tennis. He used his experience, stabilized his game, and turned the match around. Kouame fought heroically until the very end, but Tabilo celebrated after a dramatic tie-break in the fourth set (7-6 / 11-9), putting an end to the most beautiful story of this year’s Roland Garros.

Tie-Breaks for History and a Clash of Heroes

This day will be remembered for matches that went to the absolute limits of endurance:

  • Matteo Berrettini survived a real drama against Francisco Comesana. He celebrated in five sets, and the deciding fifth set was resolved in a tie-break with a score of 15-13 for the Italian!
  • The derby of yesterday’s heroes went to Juan Manuel Cerundolo. In an incredible match against the Spaniard Martin Landaluce, we watched a tennis chess match in five sets. The deciding factor was the fifth-set super tie-break, which Cerundolo won 10-8.
  • Another American, Zachary Svajda, survived a five-set thriller and knocked out the favored Francisco Cerundolo (3-2).

Auger-Aliassime Shatters Nakashima’s Hopes!

For American fans, the day ended in disappointment. The highly anticipated North American duel concluded with the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime defeating Brandon Nakashima.

After the American brilliantly opened the match by taking the first set, the Canadian managed to turn the tide. The fourth set was the scene of a fierce battle, but Auger-Aliassime kept his nerves in the final tie-break, winning with authority. The final score of this intense encounter was 3-1 in favor of the Canadian.
