The Round of 32 is officially in the books at the Cincinnati Masters 2026. The final block of matches delivered world-class tennis, shocking eliminations of top seeds, and a night to remember for the local fans in Ohio.
๐บ๐ธ๐ฌ๐ง US & UK Focus: Americans Take Over as British Hopes End
With British hopes coming to an end following Arthur Fery’s exit earlier in the round, the stage was set for the Americansโand they delivered spectacularly. The US contingent secured massive victories across the board, setting up an incredibly strong home presence for the Round of 16.
Brandon Nakashima authored the comeback of the tournament against heavily favored Daniil Medvedev, winning 6-7(3), 7-6(7), 6-1. After dropping a tight first-set tie-break, Nakashima found himself serving to stay in the match at 4-5 in the second set, where he faced three match points. Displaying incredible mental fortitude, the American saved all three, forced a tie-break, and snatched the set. The missed opportunities completely shattered Medvedev, whom Nakashima absolutely dominated in the deciding set, dropping only a single game.
Fritz and Tiafoe Advance, Borges Upsets Rublev
Nakashima isn’t the only American moving on. Taylor Fritz put an end to the brilliant run of Spanish clay specialist Daniel Merida Aguilar with a routine 2-0 victory (6-3, 6-4). Meanwhile, Frances Tiafoe won a thrilling all-American generational battle against Learner Tien, surviving a mid-match dip to win 2-1 (6-4, 4-6, 6-4).
The other massive shock of the session came from Portugal’s Nuno Borges, who played a flawless match to eliminate top-tier contender Andrey Rublev in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
As for the rest of the matches, the favorites successfully navigated their way through:
- Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime looked incredibly sharp, dismantling Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo 2-0 (7-5, 6-1).
- Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti dropped only four games en route to a comfortable 6-1, 6-3 victory over M. Zheng.
- Portugal’s Jaime Faria continues his Cinderella story in Cincinnati, coming back from a set down to eliminate Adam Walton 2-1 (4-6, 6-4, 7-6).
