A Tough Win for Zverev and Hurkacz’s Comeback

The match where Alexander Zverev was a heavy favorite against Briton Cameron Norrie was far from easy. In the first set, Zverev didn’t have a single break point, while Norrie threatened with two, including a set point at 6-5 on Zverev’s serve. Zverev saved the set point at 30-40 and then punished the Brit in the tie-break, winning it 7-1 to take the set 7-6(7). In the second set, it was an even battle once again, but at 5-4 for Zverev, the German managed to break Norrie under pressure to close the match with a 6-4 win.
American Learner Tien, who received an “A+ wildcard” for the Beijing tournament due to an administrative error, put up a strong fight, but Hubert Hurkacz managed to pull through after a comeback, winning 2-1 (5-7, 6-3, 6-4).
A Bad Day for the Dutch and Shang’s Success
Dutch tennis players Botic van de Zandschulp and Tallon Griekspoor suffered defeats in dramatic three-set matches. Argentine Francisco Cerundolo defeated Van de Zandschulp after a comeback, 2-1 (5-7, 6-4, 6-3). Griekspoor fought a great battle against Andrey Rublev all the way to a third-set tie-break, where Rublev ultimately prevailed 8-6 for a final 2-1 set victory (6-4, 5-7, 7-6).
Chinese player Juncheng Shang justified his wildcard (WC) from the organizers, overcoming Argentine Sebastian Baez in a tough battle after dropping the first set, winning 2-1 (5-7, 6-3, 7-5).
Confident Wins for Mensik, Safiullin, De Minaur, and Molcan
Frenchman Quentin Halys successfully handled his duel against Ignacio Buse with a 2-0 win (6-1, 7-6(7)). Although he won the first set easily 6-1, he struggled in the second; Buse broke back in the eighth game after an early deficit, but Halys dominantly won the tie-break 7-3. Jakub Mensik easily defeated Alexander Bublik 2-0 (6-4, 7-6(7)).
Of the remaining matches, top seed Alex De Minaur defeated Mariano Navone 2-0 (7-6(7), 6-2). Slovak Alex Molcan surprised Tomas Machac with a convincing 2-0 victory (6-3, 6-2), while Roman Safiullin also won without dropping a set, beating Flavio Cobolli 2-0 (6-3, 6-2).
