ATP Beijing 2026: Djokovic Survives Bu Drama, Hurkacz and Medvedev Reach Quarterfinals

A Tough Test for Djokovic Against an Inspired Local

Home player Y. Bu opened the match brilliantly against Novak Djokovic, a man seeking his 31st consecutive victory at the Beijing tournament. A break in the seventh game was enough for the local player to win the first set 6-4, while Djokovic did not have a single break point opportunity in that part of the match. In the second set, the Serbian tennis player was the first to secure a break in the fourth game, but Bu immediately broke back in the following game. For the remainder of the set, Djokovic was significantly more dangerous, missing three break points, but he completely dominated the tie-break, winning it 7-2 to level the match in sets.

In the third set, the psychological advantage shifted entirely to Djokovic; Bu suffered a physical and tactical drop, which Novak fully capitalized on. With a dominant performance, he took the deciding set 6-2 for a final 2-1 victory. During the match, Djokovic relied on a high first-serve percentage (70%) and managed to save 4 out of 7 break points.

Gea’s Great Resistance and Routine Wins for Medvedev and Khachanov

Poland’s H. Hurkacz and the talented Frenchman A. Gea played an outstanding match featuring plenty of excellent serving (21 aces in total, 8 for Gea and 13 for Hurkacz). There wasn’t a single break of serve in the first two sets. Hurkacz won the first set in a tie-break 7-6(5). In the second set, the Pole missed a massive opportunity at 0-40 with three consecutive break points, after which Gea responded brilliantly to take the tie-break 7-6(7). However, in the third set, it was all Hurkacz on the court, who routinely won 6-2 with two breaks of serve to secure his spot in the quarterfinals.

In the remaining, delayed Round of 32 match, D. Medvedev easily broke the resistance of Spain’s P. Carreno-Busta with a 2-0 win (6-4, 6-2). K. Khachanov also successfully completed his Round of 16 task, routinely defeating Slovakian A. Molcan 2-0 (7-5, 6-3).
