Hangzhou Open 2026: French Dominance Continues as Gaston Completes Comeback for Quarterfinals

The first four Round of 16 matches at the ATP Hangzhou Open brought continued excellent performances from the French contingent.

Hugo Gaston secured his spot in the quarterfinals after a massive comeback against Portugal’s Jaime Faria. After dropping the first set 6-4, Gaston managed to win the second set in an extremely tense tie-break, 7-6(5). In the deciding third set, the Frenchman secured a crucial break in the fifth game and confidently served out the match to win 6-4.

The match statistics clearly highlight how evenly contested the duel was. Faria dominated in aces (11 to 4), but Gaston was much more clinical in executing points on his own serve (winning 81% of points on his first serve and 59% on his second). The Frenchman successfully saved 6 of the 7 break points he faced, while capitalizing on 1 of his 5 opportunities to break. Ultimately, Gaston won 106 points (51%), while Faria took 100 points (49%).
