The quarterfinal day on Centre Court at the ATP tournament in Kitzbuhel brought us a continuation of sensational performances, but also absolute dominance from certain favorites. The crowd had the opportunity to enjoy top-tier tennis, especially a true tennis exhibition put on by the defending champion.
Halys Continues to Take Down Favorites, Hanfmann Sweeps Baez
After pulling off a major upset in the previous round, Quentin Halys shocked the tennis world once again. This time, the Frenchman eliminated the favored Argentine Mariano Navone in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-3, after an hour and 27 minutes of play. Halys was brilliant on serve again, recording 7 aces compared to Navone’s 2. The French player was extremely reliable when it mattered most, winning 80% of his first-serve points (28/35) and saving 3 out of 4 break points.
In the second match of the day, Yannick Hanfmann defeated Sebastian Baez surprisingly easily, 6-3, 6-1. The Argentine offered practically no resistance throughout the entire match, which lasted just 1 hour and 19 minutes. Hanfmann displayed perfect stability, winning 100% of his service games (8/8) and not allowing his rival a single break, having saved all 4 break point opportunities he faced.
Etcheverry Solid, Bublik’s Exhibition for Standing Ovations
Tomas Martin Etcheverry also had a very easy task against Ignacio Buse. The Argentine claimed a comfortable 6-2, 7-5 victory after 1 hour and 44 minutes of battle. Etcheverry controlled the pace of the match with 5 aces and an excellent 81% of points won on his first serve (26/32).
And then the defending champion stepped onto the stage. In the final match of the day, Alexander Bublik dismantled Alex Molcan 6-3, 6-2 in just one hour and 9 minutes. Bublik played in such a way that it seemed he was toying with his serves, looking like he could win a point whenever he wanted. He fired an incredible 13 aces. The Kazakh tennis player, as always, played for the crowd, put on a real show on the court, and was rewarded with standing ovations from the stands. He won 77% of his first-serve points (30/39), while successfully holding 8 of his 9 service games (89%).
