De Minaur’s Great Battle and Comeback
A true tennis thriller unfolded in the match between Australian Alex De Minaur and Frenchman Quentin Halys. In the first set, Halys was slightly better and, capitalizing on one break point opportunity, took the opener 6-3. The Frenchman also started the second set strongly, breaking De Minaur’s serve and holding his advantage comfortably until 5-4. However, his nerves faltered when serving for the match; De Minaur broke back, pushed the set to a tie-break, and won it 7-6(5).
The third set brought an even battle until 4-4, when De Minaur secured a break, only for Halys to immediately break back for 5-5. Finally, in the eleventh game, the Australian broke his opponent’s serve once again and then successfully served out the match for a 2-1 victory (3-6, 7-6, 7-5). Statistically, De Minaur finished the match with 10 aces and a 64% first-serve percentage, while Halys recorded 12 aces but with a slightly lower first-serve percentage (56%).
Routine Wins for Favorites and Cerundolo’s Dominance
Francisco Cerundolo defeated the favored Jakub Mensik much easier than expected with a 2-0 scoreline (6-3, 6-3). The Argentine was significantly more aggressive throughout the match and did not offer his opponent a single break point.
In the Russian derby, Andrey Rublev overcame Roman Safiullin after a great three-set battle, winning 2-1 (6-2, 3-6, 6-4). Daniil Medvedev eliminated German Jan-Lennard Struff with ease and without dropping a set, winning 2-0 (6-4, 6-3). Alexander Zverev was also relentless, dropping only three games against the last remaining local representative, Juncheng Shang, for a convincing 2-0 victory (6-0, 6-3).
