The final eight matches of the third round (Round of 32) at the Rolex Shanghai Masters delivered a fantastic day of tennis filled with drama and three massive upsets that completely shook up the draw.
Tsitsipas Returns to Form, Bergs Shocks Alcaraz

The first major surprise was delivered by Stefanos Tsitsipas, who reminded fans of his 2021 form when he was the world No. 3. After dropping the opening set, Tsitsipas completely turned the match around against heavily favored American Taylor Fritz, winning 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 and signaling a strong return to form.
Following that match came the biggest sensation of the entire tournament. Belgium’s Zizou Bergs defeated Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6(4). The scenario was similar in both sets: Bergs secured the early break, and Alcaraz would fight back to level the score. However, in the first set, Bergs managed to grab one extra break to take it 7-5. The drama peaked in the second set—Bergs broke to take a 6-5 lead and served for the match, but Alcaraz broke right back to force a tie-break. Remaining incredibly composed, Bergs won the tie-break 7-4 to secure the biggest victory of his career.
Van de Zandschulp Halts Fils, Medvedev Cruises
The third upset of the day came from the Netherlands’ Botic Van de Zandschulp, who continues to play excellent tennis, defeating Frenchman Arthur Fils 7-5, 6-4. Fils had an astonishing seven break points across three games in the first set but failed to convert a single one, while the Dutchman capitalized on one of his two opportunities to take the set. In the second set, Van de Zandschulp broke in the third game, Fils immediately broke back, but a decisive break by the Dutchman in the seventh game (giving him a 4-3 lead) sealed the match.
In the remaining matches, the favorites largely took care of business. Daniil Medvedev routinely dismissed Czech qualifier Dalibor Svrcina 6-2, 6-3, while Tommy Paul easily handled Valentin Vacherot 6-4, 6-2. Casper Ruud was also solid against American Learner Tien, winning 6-4, 7-6(3). Young Spaniard Rafael Jodar continued his fantastic run by coming back to defeat Jiri Lehecka 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-4, and Felix Auger-Aliassime eliminated Pablo Carreno-Busta in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
