Indian Wells 2026 – R64 Results & Analysis | Second Round Recap

The BNP Paribas Open 2026 second round is underway. The top seeds enter the draw for the first time, while the R128 survivors look to cause more upsets.

Fucsovics Stuns Musetti – Fucsovics def. Musetti 7-5, 6-1

One of the early upsets of the round saw Lorenzo Musetti, the fifth seed, fall to Marton Fucsovics. After a competitive first set, Fucsovics dominated the second to seal a convincing win.

Zverev Dominant – Zverev def. Berrettini 6-3, 6-4

Alexander Zverev made a statement in his opening match, dispatching Matteo Berrettini in straight sets. The German looked sharp and focused — a warning to the rest of the draw.

Cobolli Through in Three – Cobolli def. Kecmanovic 3-6, 6-3, 6-4

Flavio Cobolli dropped the first set but showed great resilience to come back and defeat Miomir Kecmanovic in three sets. The Italian continues his solid 2026 campaign.

Tien Sends Walton Home – Tien def. Walton 7-6, 7-6

Learner Tien came through a tight two-set battle against Adam Walton. Both tiebreaks were closely contested but Tien held his nerve to advance.

Shelton Through – Shelton def. Opelka 6-3, 7-6, 6-3

Ben Shelton dealt comfortably with the big-serving Reilly Opelka in three sets. The American eighth seed never looked in serious trouble and advances to the third round.

Fils Advances – Fils def. Prižmić 6-2, 6-3 (retirement)

Arthur Fils progressed after Dino Prižmić retired trailing 6-2, 6-3. The young Croatian had shown promise in R128 but could not continue.

Nakashima Through – Nakashima def. Ugo Carabelli 6-3, 6-4

Brandon Nakashima was comfortable against Carlos Ugo Carabelli, winning in straight sets without being seriously threatened.

Auger-Aliassime Battles Past Monfils – Auger-Aliassime def. Monfils 6-7, 6-3, 6-4

A generational clash that delivered drama — Gaël Monfils took the first set but Felix Auger-Aliassime raised his level in the second and third to come through in three sets.

Tiafoe Through – Tiafoe def. Brooksby 6-4, 6-2

Frances Tiafoe was dominant against compatriot Jared Brooksby, winning comfortably in straight sets to book his place in the third round.

Shapovalov Continues — Shapovalov def. Etcheverry 6-3, 2-6, 7-6

Denis Shapovalov backed up his R128 win over Tsitsipas with another strong performance, coming through a tight three-setter against Etcheverry. The Canadian lost the second set but held his nerve in the tiebreak to advance — further proof he is one to watch this week.

Sinner Opens with Ease — Sinner def. Svrcina 6-1, 6-1

Jannik Sinner made his tournament debut in dominant fashion, dismissing qualifier Dalibor Svrcina 6-1, 6-1. The world number one dropped just two games and looked completely comfortable — an ominous sign for the rest of the draw.

Diallo Stuns Rublev – Diallo def. Rublev 6-7, 7-6, 6-3

Gaël Diallo produced one of the biggest upsets of the round, eliminating 17th seed Andrey Rublev in three sets. The Canadian came from losing the first set tiebreak to dominate the final two sets and advance to the third round.

Fonseca Through in Three – Fonseca def. Khachanov 4-6, 7-6, 6-4

João Fonseca showed great maturity, coming back from a set down to eliminate 16th seed Karen Khachanov. The young Brazilian continues to prove he belongs at this level.

Kovacevic Continues – Kovacevic def. Moutet 6-1, 6-4

Alex Kovacevic backed up his R128 win over Hurkacz with a dominant straight sets victory over Moutet. The qualifier is now into the third round and is firmly one to watch.

Alcaraz Cruises – Alcaraz def. Dimitrov 6-2, 6-3

The defending champion made a statement, dismissing Grigor Dimitrov in just over an hour. Alcaraz looked sharp and comfortable — a warning to the rest of the draw.
