Alexander Bublik prevailed in a high-quality, hard-hitting contest against Jan-Lennard Struff, edging the German in three sets to close the Centre Court action at the Rotterdam ATP 500.
First Set: Tie-Break Rewards Bublik’s Composure
As expected, the opening set featured dominant serving and aggressive shot-making from both players, with neither allowing early opportunities on return. The first six games passed without a break chance.
At 3–3, Struff came under heavy pressure and eventually surrendered his serve after facing five break points. However, the German responded immediately, creating multiple rebreak chances on Bublik’s serve, but was unable to convert.
Struff later broke back at 4–5, taking advantage of a rare lapse in concentration from Bublik to level the set. The momentum carried into a tie-break, where Bublik elevated his level and took control, winning it convincingly 7–2.
Second Set: Struff Strikes Back

Struff raised his intensity in the second set and was rewarded in the fifth game, converting his first break opportunity to move ahead 3–2. He consolidated the break with confident serving to establish a 4–2 lead.
From there, the German maintained control behind his serve, seeing out the set 6–4 and forcing a deciding third set.
Deciding Set: Fine Margins Separate the Players
The final set followed a similar pattern, with powerful serving and aggressive baseline play dominating proceedings. Bublik was the first to create break chances in the sixth game, earning four opportunities, but Struff held firm.
The breakthrough finally came in the eighth game, when Bublik capitalized on his second break point to move ahead 5–3. Serving for the match, the Kazakh remained composed and closed out a 7–6, 4–6, 6–3 victory.
The match lasted close to two hours, with the opening set alone stretching to nearly an hour. In total, 21 aces were struck — 13 by Bublik and 9 by Struff — while the players combined for 51 winners. The total points won were nearly identical, 104 for Bublik and 102 for Struff, underlining just how evenly contested the encounter was.
With the victory, Bublik advances to the quarterfinals, where he will face Jaume Munar in what promises to be a high-intensity clash.
