The home crowd at Flushing Meadows had plenty to celebrate as US players delivered statement victories across the board.
- Taylor Fritz was absolutely ruthless in his second-round clash, dismantling Thomaz Bellucci and dropping just two games in a 3-0 masterclass (6-0, 6-1, 6-1).
- Learner Tien secured a milestone victory under the New York lights, defeating veteran Gael Monfils 3-0 (6-3, 6-4, 6-3). The match marked the end of an era, as Monfils played the final Grand Slam match of his career, leaving the court to a thunderous, emotional standing ovation.
- Michael Zheng halted the momentum of Chinese lucky loser Y. Bu—who stunned Jodar in the previous round—with a commanding 3-1 victory (6-3, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3).
Zverev Lives Dangerously (Again)
Alexander Zverev is making a habit of going the distance in New York. After surviving a brutal opening round against Sonego, the German found himself in another exhausting five-set battle against Frenchman Quentin Halys. Zverev dug deep to avoid an early flight home, closing it out 3-2 (6-4, 4-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3).
Top Seeds Crash Out on Hard Courts
The fast Laykold surface claimed several high-profile victims in Round 2:
- Alex de Minaur suffered the upset of the day. Botic Van De Zandschulp completely neutralized the Australian’s speed, storming to a 3-0 victory (6-4, 7-5, 6-2).
- Lorenzo Musetti was stunned by Australian Dane Sweeny. After taking the first set, the Italian collapsed, allowing Sweeny to dictate play and secure a 3-1 win (3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2).
