Spectacular Monte Carlo Quarterfinals: Alcaraz Ruthless, Sinner Routine, End of the Fairytale for Fonseca

The quarterfinal day at the ATP Monte Carlo Masters brought us top-tier tennis, dominance by the biggest favorites, but also the end of an incredible run by the young Brazilian hope. All semifinalists are known, and below we bring you detailed statistics and a review of today’s matches.

Alcaraz Through Bublik Like a Freight Train

Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the semifinals after literally thrashing Alexander Bublik with a score of 2-0 in sets (6-3, 6-0). The Spanish tennis player completely dominated the court and left his opponent without a fighting chance.

  • Alcaraz converted 6 out of 10 offered break points during the match.
  • The Spaniard recorded 16 winners and only 18 unforced errors.
  • On the other hand, Bublik played very unfocused, making 28 unforced errors with only 14 direct points.

Sinner Continues His March Towards the Title

Italian Jannik Sinner continues with solid performances in the Principality. He defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 2-0 (6-3, 6-4) and thus secured his place among the top four players.

  • Sinner was absolutely perfect at the net, winning 100% of the points (5/5) when moving forward.
  • The Italian finished the match with 23 winners and exactly as many (23) unforced errors.
  • Although Auger-Aliassime had a high first-serve percentage (73%), it did not help him seriously threaten the in-form Sinner.

Zverev Survives Fonseca

The fairytale of young Joao Fonseca is officially over, but only after a huge battle! Alexander Zverev had to play three sets to break the Brazilian’s resistance, ultimately winning 2-1 (7-5, 6-7, 6-3).

  • Inexperience cost Fonseca, who, in his desire to play aggressively, made as many as 47 unforced errors.
  • The German tennis player played much more stably, recording 25 winners and 36 unforced errors.
  • Although Fonseca had more direct points (30), Zverev’s experience prevailed in the deciding third set.

Vacherot Surprises De Minaur

In the final quarterfinal clash, Valentin Vacherot caused an upset by knocking out Alex De Minaur with a 2-1 victory in sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-3).

  • Vacherot relied on a good serve, recording 6 aces, while the Australian had 3 aces.
  • Vacherot produced 21 winners, compared to 32 by his opponent.
  • Gifts cost De Minaur dearly – he made 43 unforced errors and 6 double faults, which Vacherot knew how to punish.
