Tiriac Open 2026: Dzumhur Continues His Streak, First Four Quarterfinalists Set

The first day of the Round of 16 at the Tiriac Open 2026 brought us excellent tennis and dominant performances from players who secured their tickets to the quarterfinals. Four matches were played on the courts in Bucharest, with Alex Molcan and Mariano Navone being the most convincing.


Dzumhur Doesn’t Stop, Van De Zandschulp Shifts into Higher Gear

After yesterday’s exhausting marathon, many wondered how much strength Damir Dzumhur had left. He gave the best possible answer on the court. Dzumhur defeated Nuno Borges with a score of 6-1, 7-6(4). The experienced tennis player played a tactically flawless match, forcing his opponent into 42 unforced errors, while recording 26 himself. Dzumhur won a total of 79 points in the match compared to Borges’ 64.

Botic van de Zandschulp only had trouble in the first set against Alexander Shevchenko. After a tight first set, the Dutchman took complete control and won 7-5, 6-1. Van de Zandschulp was highly aggressive, hitting 28 winners (compared to Shevchenko’s 12) and winning 82% of his net points (9 out of 11).

Molcan and Navone Express to the Quarterfinals

Alex Molcan continued his great streak from the qualifiers. He routinely eliminated Gabriel Diallo 6-2, 6-2. Molcan controlled the pace of the match, winning 58% of the total points (65 of 112) , while converting 5 out of his 13 break point opportunities.

Mariano Navone showed similar dominance against Elmer Moller. The Argentine won with a score of 6-2, 6-1. Moller made 35 unforced errors in this match , which Navone skillfully capitalized on, converting 6 of 11 break opportunities and winning 80% of the games in the match.
