Tuesday at the Tiriac Open 2026 brought everything we love about clay-court tennis – marathon rallies, turnarounds, and high emotions. After the rain clouds finally left the “Simona Halep” National Tennis Center, the crowd enjoyed a full schedule of play.
The absolute highlight of the day was the first-round clash between the experienced Damir Dzumhur and local wildcard (WC) Filip Cristian Jianu.


A Marathon Thriller Goes to Dzumhur
The match lasted an exhausting 2 hours and 43 minutes. Dzumhur ultimately claimed the victory with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(4) scoreline, in a match that could have easily gone either way.
The first set went to Dzumhur relatively quickly in 40 minutes. However, carried by the massive support from the stands, the Romanian player bounced back in the second set to force a decider. The third set brought a true trench battle lasting 1 hour and 12 minutes, with the winner finally being decided in a tiebreak.

- Total Points: Dzumhur won a total of 110 points, compared to Jianu’s 100.
- Winners & Errors: Damir hit 39 winners along with 41 unforced errors. On the other side, Filip had 21 winners and a massive 50 unforced errors.
- Break Points: Dzumhur converted 5 out of his 16 break point opportunities. Jianu was highly efficient, converting 4 out of 5 break points.
- Service Success: Dzumhur won 73% of his service games. Jianu won 69% of his service games.

Besides this marathon, the suspended qualifying matches were completed, along with the remaining Round of 32 matches in the Main Draw. Young Dino Prizmic continues his excellent form, while Titouan Droguet delivered a major upset by eliminating Roberto Bautista Agut.
