Elena Rybakina reflects on Australian Open triumph after press conference

Elena Rybakina described her Australian Open title as one of the most meaningful achievements of her career, reflecting on resilience, belief, and key lessons learned after lifting her first trophy in Melbourne.

Speaking to the media following a dramatic three-set final, Rybakina admitted she did not expect the match to turn in her favour, but remained ready to take risks when the opportunity came.

“I didn’t expect to turn it around”

Rybakina acknowledged the difficulty of the battle against Aryna Sabalenka and the mental challenge of staying composed in decisive moments.

“It was a really tough battle,” she said. “I didn’t expect to turn it around, but I got some opportunities. Aryna is a very tough opponent, so I knew I had to go for my shots and not wait for mistakes.”

She also referenced the 2023 Australian Open final loss as a key learning experience.

“Last time was very close, but she played incredibly well. This time, I knew that if I had my chances, I needed to take risks and be aggressive.”

Growth, confidence and team effort

Rybakina rejected the idea of feeling unbeatable, instead emphasizing steady improvement over recent weeks.

“I lost in Brisbane earlier this season, but I felt that throughout these weeks I improved. I’m really proud of the work we did with the team and that I found my best form here at the Grand Slam.”

She highlighted communication, physical management, and adaptability as crucial factors behind her resurgence.

“The schedule is not easy. You need to manage your body, adapt plans, and communicate constantly with the team. That’s the key.”

Belief through ups and downs

Despite periods of doubt over the past four years, Rybakina said belief never fully disappeared.

“Of course, there were moments when I thought maybe I would never reach another final or win another trophy. But it’s all about the work. Big wins against top players bring confidence, and step by step you start believing again.”

Comparing the emotions to her Wimbledon triumph, she noted the difference experience makes.

“Wimbledon was very stressful emotionally. This time, I managed it better. I was calmer, sleeping well, and more focused.”

Looking ahead

With consecutive major titles and victories over the tour’s top players, Rybakina remains grounded about future ambitions.

“I have big goals. Time will show. We will keep working and see what happens.”
